Adam Abdul Gafoor
Mr. Adam Abdul Gafoor is the owner and Managing Director of Finolhu
Investment Pvt. Ltd. & the owner & Chairman of Aqua Sun Investments Pvt.
Ltd.
Mr. Adam Abdul Gafoor began his working career in public sector where he
worked and got trained in the health sector. During his career in the
public sector, Mr. Gafoor was employed in the government health sector for
a period of 6 years. In the early 1970’s he worked in Public Health
Department as Health Assistant and was transferred to WHO (World Health
Organization) as Senior Health Coordinator. Mr. Gafoor was sent by WHO to
Philippine Manila from 1972 to 1973 to study under Malaria Eradication
Program and from 1974 to 1975 to Delhi / India.
In the late 1970’s, Mr. Adam Abdul Gafoor changed his profession to the
hospitality industry. His first job within the industry was as the
Purchasing Assistant to Club Med / Farukolhufushi Resort. Mr. Gafoor built
up his career from there. He was promoted to Purchasing Manager / Male
office, Club Med. He was then employed by Vaadoo Diving Paradise Resort, a
2 star resort in the South Male Atoll, as the Assistant in the F&B
department, in 1980. In 1981, he was appointed as a Guest Relation
Officer, with the additional responsibility of airport handling. In 1982,
Mr. Gafoor was promoted as the Assistant General Manager in the same
resort, and in 1983 he was promoted as the General Manager.
Then in 1985, Mr. Adam Abdul Gafoor was employed as the General Manager at
Cocoa Island Resort; the only private 2 villa resort in the Maldives in
1980’s and the only foreign management hotel in the Maldives at the time.
Under his guidance the resort transformed from a 2 villa to an 8 villa
resort from 1985 to 1989.
In the year 1990, Mr. Adam Abdul Gafoor started managing his own resort,
Maayafushi Tourist Resort, in the North Ari Atoll, which was then leased
to his company Star Resort And Hotel Company. Maayafushi Tourist Resort
was a 3 star hotel with 120 beds and was marketed, operated and managed by
Mr. Adam Abdul Gafoor from 1990 to 1999. He refurbished Maayafushi Tourist
Resort and upgraded it to a 4 star plus resort in 1996.
Mr. Adam Abdul Gafoor established a travel company called Aqua Sun
Maldives in 1997, which was one of the reputable travel companies in the
Maldives. Aqua Sun Maldives did business with almost all the resort hotels
operated at that time in the Maldives.
Mr. Adam Abdul Gafoor leased Ethere Madivaru Island in North Ari Atoll
from a private owner and developed it as a picnic island, which was used
by the nearby resorts as a picnic island. Mr. Gafoor also introduced a new
style of picnic called the “Robinson Picnic” and worked with an exclusive
understanding with Club Med / Kanifinolhu together with the Maldivian Air
Taxi (seaplane).
In 2000, Mr. Adam Abdul Gafoor purchased a cruise yacht from Turkey, a 2
mast and 5 sail schooner, and imported it to the Maldives. The cruise
yacht “Dream Voyager” was marketed, operated and managed by his company,
the Aqua Sun Holidays Maldives.
